Hello my creative friends & welcome to another "Friday's Tip of the Day"! Remember when I first started this segment on my blog, I had mentioned that not every tip was going to be scrapbook related?! Well, today is one of those "Non-scrapbook" related tips! I wanted to share w/you a tip I had learned 15 years ago while I was visiting San Diego w/my hubby. While we were there, we ate at all the outdoor restaurants because the weather was always so beautiful out in the evenings! When we were eating, I kept seeing lemons w/cloves on the tables & I had asked the waitress what they were for? She replied "They keep the flies away"! Oh boy, was she right! I have been using this tip for years now & wanted to share it w/all of you! You can see in my video how SUPER EASY this is to do!
See, not a fly in sight!;) I just LOVE today's tip of the day!
Here is my short & sweet video for ya today!
Hopefully this helps some of you out there today! Leave me a comment here, I would LOVE to hear your tip's on how to keep the flies away while eating outdoors! Have a FABULOUS Friday & I will see you all back here tomorrow for a fun blog hop! xoxo's
P.S. When I had my son's communion outside in our yard I had (6) 6' tables & I placed 2 on each end of each table! You want to make sure you have plenty of cloves on hand! Also, when I had my son's birthday party, I put the lemon's in matching cupcake holders as all of the decoration's! It's definitely something really nice to decorate your table along side w/an "unscented" tealight in the evenings!;)

ReplyDeleteGreat tip! Will definitely try it!
ReplyDeleteThank you,

Great Tip!!...TFS!
ReplyDeleteOMG I am definitely going to try this. Here in Texas we are having a horrible drought--and the worst fly problem in a looooon time. I have just about given up eating outside in the cooler (not very cool) evenings. Will one work--or does it take several? Wonder if it will work using limes. Wouldn't these be cute in cupcake wrappers for a party?
ReplyDeleteOh Thank you Thank You, We never get to eat outside and when we do I always have to pick up the hose pipe and spray the bugs away. LOL!! I am in Louisiana and the bugs are horrible!!!! Thank you I will be trying this:)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing Miss Emma! I will definately try this during out next BBQ. Keep those tips coming.

Emma Thank thank thank YOU I SOOOO needed this Here in VA there is some kind of fly infestation .eewwww that just sounds gross ... but OMG I kill at least 10 flies a day and there is swarms of them out side. We have to hurry the kids inside and out just so the flies wont get it . Its weird that there are that many. Thanks so much for the tip !! :) I have heard of one tip but I dont think it works lol put a penny in a bag of water and hang it outside somewhere.
ReplyDeleteMicia

ReplyDeleteEmma, thank you so much for this tip. We like eating outside also but UGH hate the bugs. Who wants flys on their food? They are so dirty too. I'll have to try this. I like that it is inexpensive and it looks pretty.
ReplyDeleteI mean flies, LOL
ReplyDeleteI love all your tips, they don't have to always be scrapbooking related, it's nice to learn different things ;)
ReplyDeleteLove this tip! We have a terrible fly problem any time we eat out side and have tried many remedies and nothing has been very good so far.

Thanks Emma!

Thanks for the tip Emma, I have never heard that one before. I will definitely try it. Another one I have seen before is baggies filled with water. You hang them around your patio/yard. Supposedly the reflection keeps flies away. Your solution seems easier!
ReplyDeleteLeslie
Wonderful Tip. I will definitely keep that in mind.

I have never heard of this before! Great tip! I will definitely try this. TFS!
ReplyDeleteWow that's a great tip! We use a freezer bag filled halfway with water taped to the door to keep the flies from coming into the house, it really works, looks kinda of goofy.
ReplyDeleteI have never heard of this before. Thank you for sharing this wonderful tip! I will be trying it at our next BBQ.
ReplyDeleteI love this all natural tip to keep flies away. I will try this when we go up North if a few weeks. There are always so many flies by the lake. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteGreat way to keep the kids busy & helping to prepare for a get together/party.
ReplyDeleteEmma I've learned so much from watching your videos on how to use the cricut and gypsy and I love your stamps. Thanks for being so helpful to a non-crafter who is learning-by-internet to paper craft and make cards. from mom2park
ReplyDeleteI now live in San Diego and now will try this when we go camping also. Thanks so much. Mary Ann
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! Will definitely have to try it sometime. Once when I went on a mission trip to the inner city of Memphis, the people that we were visiting in the poorer parts of the city would have a clear plastic bag with water in it hanging from the center of their door ways. And there were alot of people doing this, so we finally asked, and they said it keeps the flies from coming in the house. Not sure if it works 100%, but it's such a cheap, easy idea, that it's worth a shot. I like to leave the screen door at the back of my house open for my dog to come in and out as she pleases when the weather is nice, but so many flies come in! I'll have to try the water in the bag thing myself to see if it works!
ReplyDeleteTried it... didn't work:(
ReplyDeleteAfter seeing this I went out and bought some bowls from the dollar store and a bag of lemons from Walmart, now just waiting to see if it works! So far some of the flies have gone awway! Here in Fort Bragg, Nc ITS A SWAMP SO WE HAVE FLIES SOMETHING AWFUL! THANKS FOR THE TIP..........
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip..we love eating outdoors! Can't wait to try it!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip! In a pinch do you think concentrated lemon juice with cloves sprinkled on top would work the same way?
ReplyDeleteIt does nothing for Australian flies, except that they seem to dislike walking on the spilled pools of lemon juice that result.
ReplyDeleteHow long will the lemons last? We have terrible flies but my boys love playing outdoors and are always leaving the door open so they are even coming inside. I hope it works. I've tried the bag of water with and without pennies and that hasn't worked.
ReplyDeletecloves of?? what? only cloves know of are garlic.....LOL....and I'm sure it's not cloves of that
ReplyDeleteWhole cloves. With the spices at the grocery store.
ReplyDeleteThis tip is wonderful....can't wait to try it. We hang outside over the weekends alot but theonething that drives us in is the flies. Will def be trying this as soon as it stops raining :) thanks
